Sustained Sustained by Emma Chase
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

THIS is how you write romantic comedy. THIS. THIS. THIS.
I loved this book. I think Ms. Chase is brilliant. She writes from the male lense SO well. I'm not a guy so I can only say she gives her male characters the kind of internal dialogue I would like to think all men have. And somehow, she manages to make us laugh even when there are some heavy things going on in the story.

This is book 2 in the Legal Briefs story and it is the best of the series!

If you read my reviews you know that this is usually where I put the publisher's summary. So, here it is. And honestly a more accurate and succinct summary I've yet to read.

When you're a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating - and that suits me just fine. In fact it's necessary when I'm breaking down a witness on the stand.
Complications don't work for me - I'm a "need to know" type of man. If you're my client, tell me the basic facts. If you're my date, stick to what will get you off. I'm not a therapist or Prince Charming - and I don't pretend to be.
Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy Me classes, One Direction concerts, and the emergency room and am knee deep in a damn compost pit.
Chelsea's too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she's not. She needs someone to help her and defend her - and the kids.
And that - that I know how to do.

The characters from book 1 and the upcoming book 3 both feature prominently in this story. I love the ensemble cast and it makes you feel like you're still getting continuation of their stories (or in Brent's case--a preview) and learning new things about them. Sofia and Stanton continue to be awesome!

While this story will make you laugh out loud, there are some moments that will make you want to weep, scream and hit something...and then laugh all over again.

If you read Ms. Chase's work before then you will know that there are often delightful, clever and sometimes mischevous children in her stories. This one is no exception and it just makes the story a smorgasbord of emotions. You get everything from this story: It's sexy as hell, laugh out loud funny, full of drama and will also break your heart a little.

I've already pre-ordered book 3 and can't wait to read and listen.
Oh yeah, I also own the audio books because, duh - Sebastian York! If you don't know what that means, buy the audiobook and you will understand.

Oh, and if you haven't already you should read the Tangled series. Book two, Tamed was my favorite! Matthew is divine!
