His All Night His All Night by Elle Wright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

His All Night is the story of Cali and Red (Jared). This is my first book by Elle Wright and I am SO glad I requested this ARC. I will be back for more. She brings the heat, the drama and ALL of the EMOTIONS.

I L.O.V.E.D Red! As I read the story, I could picture him, hear him and even imagine how he felt. The character was well written and pretty well developed. From the very beginning we learn that despite the nature of their arrangement, Red feels more and wants more from Cali than she is currently willing to give (I really think it's more like what she is ABLE to give).

Their first love scene, which was ALL kinds of hot, sets us up the dynamics of their relationship. They are very good, long time friends who have become lovers. But, they have an understanding that keeps them both safe from the messy emotions that come from romantic entanglements. They also are both invested in preserving their deep and abiding friendship.

So, Red's sudden change of heart really throws a wrench in their arrangement.
Cali's tumultuous childhood and her mother's tragic life choices have made her afraid to stray from her "plan". She wants to focus on her career and make something of herself and she doesn't want anything to get in the way of that.
Jared, an established and successful attorney who is currently embroiled in his own drama. He is learning how to be a father and how to be everything to Cali even if she doesn't want him to be. He is determined to be her man and I loved how he cared for her--and everyone in his life really. He is an awesome guy!

I understood Cali, I really did. She was very well developed, too. I appreciated her honesty--even I thought she was a little misguided- she really tried to be fair to Red by letting him know where she was at all times. And honestly, most of the time, I thought Cali did the best she could with what she was equipped with.

I loved this story. Life is not always fair, it's not always easy and I thought that the story told in this story added really meat to the romance. I loved watching these two find their way and the secondary characters (from Book 1 of this series--I haven't read that yet, but I will!) are great.

I don't want to say too much about the story and risk spoiling it for you, but it is a very enjoyable and robust read. I only wish that Cali had the courage of her convictions a bit sooner.

Finally, I will say, I am so happy to have found a good book where the lead characters are POC. There are not enough stories like this is in contemporary romance.
