This was such a unique story. It's hard to say that this is my absolute favorite Kristen Ashley because I love almost everything of hers that I have read.
This is the publisher's summary " Circe Quinn goes to sleep at home and wakes up in a corral filled with women wearing sacrificial virgin attire - and she is one of them. She soon finds out that she’s not having a wild dream, she’s living a frightening nightmare where she’s been transported to a barren land populated by a primitive people and in short order, she’s installed very unwillingly on her white throne of horns as their Queen.
Dax Lahn is the king of Suh Tunak, The Horde of the nation of Korwahk and with one look at Circe, he knows she will be his bride and together they will start The Golden Dynasty of legend.
Circe and Lahn are separated by language, culture and the small fact she’s from a parallel universe and has no idea how she got there or how to get home. But facing challenge after challenge, Circe finds her footing as Queen of the brutal Korwahk Horde and wife to its King, then she makes friends then she finds herself falling in love with this primitive land, its people and especially their savage leader."
If you've read other reviews, you will know that there are some difficult themes in this book. Yuo should read her preface, it will warn you of all possible triggers. You have to remember that the story is set in a different and not at all modern time. Women's rights were non-existent. Yes, our heroine is a modern woman, but you have to suspend your righteous indignation or it will be difficult to enjoy this book.
But,I loved it. I loved Lahn and Circe and I loved the whole "Game of Thrones Daneryis and Drago" thing that was happening. Unlike those two, Kristen Ashley makes sure they have the HEA. They go through a lot to get there, but the story is so exciting and romantic. I loved every single second and wanted to weep when it ended. I stayed up ALL night, even though I had work the next day because I could not stop reading. The writing is superb and I will be re-reading this one again soon.
