Playing for Love at Deep Haven (Enchanted Places, #1) by Katy Regnery

I love a good romance. THIS is pure romance. This is the second book by Katy Regnery that I have read. The first was Holden and Griselda's story Never Let You Go A Modern Fairytale by Katy Regnery. I loved it and immediately wanted to read something else by the author. Playing for Love at Deep Haven is about a second chance at love. Zach and Violet were students at Yale- he is a musical prodigy and she is an aspiring poet. Their relationship starts off as an organic friendship. Although their feelings deepen, Zach is emotionally stunted due to his upbringing. This results in him not being able to meet Violet where she is in terms of expressing how he feels. They separate and Violet moves on quickly. Zach leaves Yale and their paths do not cross again for almost a decade.

In the present day, Violet is an almost Stepford wife living in Greenwich CT. She is trying to get her life together after suffering a painful setback. She seeks refuge at a friend's house in Deep Haven to try to get over her hurt and to get past her debilitating writer's block. Zach is song writer/ guitarist who feels the pain of regret and unfulfilled potential. He writes "angry" music. But he is tired of it and he seeks solitude and escape at Deep Haven. They end up being thrown together.

It was exciting, frustrating and at times painful to watch them grapple with their past and navigate a future together. They are both still holding on to old resentments and regrets from their time at Yale. But, their love for each other is a force to be reckoned with and their battle to find a life together waged with brave ferocity.

Ms. Regnery has written two characters that I like equally. This is rare. I usually find one of characters more sympathetic than the other. But they are equally flawed and equally lovely. They are both stubborn yet willing to see the other's point of view.

This was a fast read that grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let me go until the very last page.

I enjoyed it very much and will definitely re-read at some point.
